Many patients believe that eye exams are solely to update glasses or contact lens prescriptions.
Although important, that is truly a secondary reason to have your eyes examined each year. Making sure the eyes are healthy is the most important element in an eye examination. Oftentimes, the eyes can tell you a lot about the overall health of your body.
Here are some examples of patients that have come in for a routine check up, that have unfortunately discovered there were more serious issues occurring within their bodies.
This is what a healthy eye typically looks like. The yellow circle is the optic nerve, the red spot is the macula, or what you use to see straight ahead with, and the red lines are arteries and veins.
